This is my culture. A fair and interesting article as to why possibly some 62% of U.S. Mormons voted Republican. I have frequently encountered the “S” word among Mormons who are willing to talk politics.
Commentary: Mormons hate socialism, but only in the United States
The main reason Mormons in the United States rail against anything socialist is because so much of their “doctrine” is derived from the Republican Party.
Republicans hate any form of universal health care, not because it’s ineffective but because it’s socialist. Yet Mormons in England, and France, and Japan, and all the other countries with such programs, don’t have to denounce their country’s health care system and insist on for-profit health care in order to obtain temple recommends, do they?

Few people know today of the sociologist Max Weber’s work which resulted in our use of the term Capitalism. They don’t know that Capitalism is derived from a religious cult (Calvinism). The foundation principle of that very successful cult is Predestination which essentially says that if you are rich it is because God favours you and if you aren’t it’s because God doesn’t favour you and this was all set in the very act of creation and you can do little to change it. Weber was trying to understand how a fanatical Christian group could glorify greed which seems so inconsistent with the example of their messiah.
Good comment. Informative
