In hypohttps://rugerac.com/2020/05/08/persecution-complex/critical condition, the evangelical base needs scapegoats; particularly scapegoats with muted voices that pale in comparison to the hysterical pious political nonsense oozing out of the holier-than-thou swamp.
In hypocritical condition the evangelical base needs straw-man persons who do not exist but who as scapegoats can be preached about, rhetorically panicked over and in their patriotic unworthiness, will serve as a focus of the evangelical’s own pandemic of hate and hypocrisy.
An American citizen in hypocritical condition presents its own religious and political blather with a fake proclamation of the supposed Christian goodness that underlies all that is “good” about America.
What do such morally diseased Americans sputter and spew in our direction in an ignorant attempt to infect fellow citizens?
How about murderous foreign and domestic policies that are not only presidentially imperialistic, but grounded in a misguided sense of exceptionalism. Such exceptionalism insists that not only its citizens, but the country itself was born on third base with a silver spoon in its mouth and an imperial right of superiority and self-importance over every other country and human being.
In a hypocritical condition angry white evangelicals rant and mutter in search of a restoration of a white privileged race whose white mental and emotional fragility handicap themselves, leaving them perceptually vulnerable to landing on the wrong side of goodness and morality as a cultural minority.
It’s unfortunate that the presidential object of evangelical affection is an entirely morally flawed and narcissistic personality. The irony is however that the evangelical base itself is narcissistic at its core, most powerfully evidenced by its willingness to pretend that God has chosen a mortal so engrossed in his own person that true believers have to morally and politically contort themselves in every direction sole to avoid the revelation of his and their own hypocritical condition.
Scapegoating is rationalized by a false belief in some sort of cultural/racial purity that – like a lethal virus – threatens to infect and destroy the human constitution of our supposed home of the brave and land of the free.
Despite the rejection and disbelief of a majority in this country, those of the audience before whom Mr. Trump parades shamelessly are pre-raptured audiences who force themselves to accept his promises. To wit: the kingdom he intends to preside over will lead to the millennial rapture over which true believers will reign for a thousand years.
What is interesting is that the biblical idolatry that plagues evangelicals and contributes to their slide into a hypocritical condition is based on the Middle Eastern expositions and teaching of a non-white culture whose “swarthiness” is natural and to whom human “whiteness” is evidence of a contempt that goes back at least to the times of the racially driven Crusades.
It is within that biblical idolatry that today’s political evangelicals hang their hats, intoning furtive amens to the equally imperialistic perception that a white Jesus who never existed is the only Son of God and Savior of the world. It is a casual acceptance of the White Jesus that lies behind most white evangelical Christians dehumanizing non-whites in general and Muslims in particular.
A blind acceptance of theological guesswork authored by the founding fathers of Roman Catholicism is one principle basis for the arrogant ignorance or ignorant arrogance of assuming that Christian theological and dogmatic Truth is the ONLY truth.
Without the survival of that theological guesswork and resultant scriptural editing by the winners who rewrote the writings at the expense of the losers, we would not be plagued today with the idea that Jesus the Man really said “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14: 6)
Salvation requires confessing of Jesus as one’s Savior, after which “sins” are forgiven, reconciliation with an offended and punitive God is accomplished and and one’s resurrection is earned like a merit badge for self-righteous piety.
Once personally saved by theological magical thinking, they as evangelicals are commissioned by the command to “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28: 16-20)
Which leads us back to our national self-righteous ego that insists that we are the greatest and most religious nation in the world. And if we are not the most religious, it is because of the “sins” of non-conformity to evangelical gospel nonsense that – as Falwell Sr. once said right after the terrorist attacks on 9/11/01-
Throwing God out successfully with the help of the federal court system, throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools. The abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad. I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way – all of them who have tried to secularize America – I point the finger in their face and say “you helped this happen.”
Such an imperialistic Christian belief blends well with U. S. imperialism’s “American exceptionalism.”
